Message from the Chair

From Mitch Tarr

Chair, ASQ Section 605

I would personally like to invite you to our monthly section ASQ 605 meeting. These meetings enable members to network with other professionals that share the same goals of continual improvement.

January – No General Meeting

There will be an ASQ Section 605 Board Meeting on 1/21 in place of the general membership meeting. This will give the new Board a chance to solidify plans for 2016. The board will focus on bringing quality meetings to the Section membership over the course of 2016, starting with the February meeting featuring Chris Moore speaking on “The Seven Basic Tools of Quality”.

If you are interested in attending a board meeting or participating in the management of the Sacramento Section of ASQ, please contact Mitch Tarr.

    About the Presentation:

The seven basic tools of quality provide key techniques to understand your clients’ problems and help you develop solutions. But even the best of us sometimes neglect the basics.

This interactive presentation provides a scenario around a technical problem and engages attendees in defining and analyzing the problem, then proposing solutions. Tools explored in the problem statement and analysis include but are not limited to trend lines, Pareto diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, check sheets and scatter diagrams. Participants will use the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle within their presentations.

    About the Speaker:

Chris Moore is a Senior ASQ member, former Sacramento Section Chair, holds four ASQ certifications and has taught those bodies of knowledge for the Section over the past 18 years. He is certified by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional, teaches that body of knowledge, and has managed or performed business analyst or quality management roles on many government projects including his own “Best of California” software development project.

He is a former Director of Quality for two Air Force bases of up to 6,000 personnel in 40 organizations including a major medical center and led a world-wide championship process improvement team. Chris also served as a senior, lead examiner for the President’s Quality Award, the Air Force Unit Quality Awards, and both California quality awards organizations.

Customers, employees and suppliers can tell a well-run organization without a narrated tour. The visual clues are everywhere. Establishing simple visual controls is one of the most important elements of becoming a Lean organization. 7S reduces the opportunities to make errors and help highlight at an early stage, potential delays and disruptions.   7S is much more than "a place for everything and everything in its place". 7S is comprised of seven principles to make people highly efficient, effective in performing their work. This two day session will provide the participants with the key principles of 7S.

    The training is designed to:
